LinkedIn has announced a new BlackBerry app for business professionals that lets them build connections with their smartphone.

The new application, similar to ones already released for the iPhone and Palm Pre, gives LinkedIn members the ability to access and update their accounts when they are away from their computers.

The application features native integration with the BlackBerry so users can use LinkedIn within their BlackBerry's existing e-mail, calendar and contacts applications.

Key functionality includes the ability to: search LinkedIn profiles; view LinkedIn inboxes; receive network updates; make new connections away from the computer; and send invitations to new connections.

The LinkedIn application for BlackBerry smartphones is free and is compatible with the BlackBerry Tour, Curve and Bold series of smartphones running BlackBerry OS 4.3 or later. Full integration of the LinkedIn application with native BlackBerry applications requires BlackBerry OS 4.6 or later.
