Verizon Conferencing commissioned Meetings in America to study the meeting trends and the needs of its customers. The survey revealed:

  1. A five person meeting conducted in-person (involving plane travel for four of the attendees) is over 7 times more expensive than a meeting conducted by audio conference, and nearly three times as expensive as videoconference:
    -In-person meetings cost: $5,197.50
    -Audio conference cost: $689.24
    -Videoconference cost: $1700.69
  2. The average time participants spend to prepare for, travel to and attend this in-person meeting involving five people is 53 hours and 24 minutes. This is more than three times the time involved in an audio or video conferencing meeting.
  3. Nearly all meeting attendees (91%) admit to daydreaming during meetings, 70% multi-task during meetings, while over one-third (39%) have actually fallen asleep.
