Most or many people now day's, the thought of working at home is the ultimate dream. After all, many of us really dislike our jobs; and perhaps we dislike the compensation we receive for doing those tedious jobs even less. Some of us also have a hard time dealing with our upper management, who may or may not be good people. Given all these factors, working at home, in the peace and comfort of being in your own realm, seems like an incredibly awesome idea.

If you are thinking about working at home, then you must first consider all of the variables that will be involved in your possible decision. Working at home, like working outside in the real world carries its own set of advantages and disadvantages. It would be good for you to scrutinize each individual argument, and examine how much weight certain arguments should have on your decision.

Some of the best advantages of working at home include:

1. Being your own boss for. Most people resent having to work for the benefit of someone else because in reality you are just working hard to maximize their profits. We are all naturally selfish in our own ways. We want our work to primarily benefit us. As an employee, your work primarily benefits the company that you work for, and your boss. You receive a salary, but the amount you usually receive does not correspond to the full value of the labor services that you rendered.

2. Being in charge of your own time. It is frustrating to have your time and in reality your life subject to the caprices of others. How many fathers have missed their son's baseball or football games because they had to attend an important meeting or work late? Working at home means that you are the only one who takes control of your own time. You can do whatever you choose, whenever you choose to do it.

3. Possibility of large gains. As we've mentioned before, when you work for a salary, you only receive a portion of the value of the service you rendered. However if you own your own business and are working at home, you not only receive the fruits of your own labor, you have the possibility of receiving the fruits of another's labor, such as when you hire your own employees. If your business takes off, then you have a chance to earn more money in a year than you otherwise would've gotten throughout your entire lifetime, had you stuck with your regular job. This is an important factor to consider.

4. Being able to choose who and what you want to be associated with. Not being stuck in an office means that you won't have to put up with people that you can't tolerate. Instead, you can pick and choose who you want to do business with. You will also have the ability to ignore those who aren't as relevant.

Now, working at home is not a financial cure-all. In fact, you can expect to have a rough time, especially in the beginning, or start up period. However, as long as you stay disciplined and do the work that you have to do each day, you can expect your venture to grow, and in time your profits to grow as well.
