Being a sales rep has it's perks. Like having liquid lunches or beers on Friday afternoon. At least it used to be. If you are a rep in Ontario you might want to rethink that afternoon drink.
Changes to Ontario′s Drinking and Driving Laws
Ontario is cracking down on drivers who drink and drive with tougher suspension laws. As of May 1, 2009, Ontario has targeted measures to help take more drinking drivers off the roads. Drivers who register a BAC from 0.05 to 0.08 (known as the "warn range") lose their licence at roadside for 3 days. Consequences also get tougher for repeat occurrences.
If it happens again within five years, the suspension climbs to seven days and drivers will be forced to enroll in a remedial alcohol treatment program. If it happens again within five years, the suspension will be 30 days and you will be subject to an ignition interlock licence condition for six months.
All of this information will be added to people's Ministry of Transportation drivers licence ab¬stract, which can then be accessible by an insurance provider. Each year, approximately one quarter of all fatal collisions is alcohol related, and police want to help to reduce that statistic.
